Arlecchino

Arlecchino

DESCRIPTION

Arlecchino or Harlequin is one of the principal stock characters of the Italian commedia dell’arte. Often a facile and witty gentleman’s valet and a capricious swain of the serving maid. Arlecchino provides comedy to the audience, often communicating directly to them. The purpose of doing this is to engage the audience and allow them to understand what he is thinking in a particular situation. Although unintelligent, Arlecchino usually plays a large role in solving the problems within the play.

The inspiration of this piece comes from Arlecchino’s costume. It was originally a peasant’s shirt and long trousers, both covered with many coloured patches. It later developed into a tight-fitting costume decorated with triangles and diamond shapes.

Just like the Arlecchino’s colourful costume, the Arlecchino cuff comprises of beautifully encased luscious Swarovski pearls in 2 contrasting yet complimentary colours. Two pearls are connected by Czech fire polished beads to form a drum like component. They are then connected to form a dramatic cuff in the colours of the Arlecchino.
